LoL World Championship 2024 Playoffs Schedule – The Main Battle Begins

The esports celebration of League of Legends, called the LoL World Championship 2024, is gaining momentum as it enters its most exciting stage. From October 18 to November 2, the Knockout Stage (the playoffs stage) will take place.
It's hard to overestimate the importance of the Knockout Stage, as this is where the fate of the world’s strongest team is decided. There are eight contenders for this prestigious title.
If you're interested in the competitive aspect of League of Legends, missing Worlds 2024 is simply not an option. We’ve prepared the LoL World Championship 2024 Knockout Stage Round 1 schedule, along with a brief overview of each quarterfinal.
LoL World Championship 2024 Quarterfinals: Schedule & Overview
The LoL World Championship 2024 Knockout Stage will begin on October 17 and continue until November 2. Knockout Stage games will be held at two locations: Adidas Arena in Paris and O2 Arena in London.
The LoL World Championship 2024 quarterfinals will take place from October 17 to 20. Here’s who’s playing and when.
Now that we know all the quarterfinal matchups, let’s take a closer look at each of these games.
LNG Esports vs. Weibo Gaming (October 17, 14:00 CET)
The first match of the LoL World Championship 2024 Quarterfinals will be between LNG Esports (LPL) and Weibo Gaming (LPL). The LNG Esports vs. WBG match will take place on October 18 at 14:00 CET in a best-of-5 format.
A derby between LPL representatives on the Worlds stage is always a spectacular event, especially when it’s LNG Esports versus Weibo Gaming.
LNG Esports ranked in the top 4, while Weibo Gaming is top 2. Both teams know each other well from the regional league and both had difficulties on their way to the playoffs of the LoL World Championship 2024.
LNG Esports had a rocky road to the Worlds playoffs, which started long before the team arrived in Berlin for the Swiss Stage. Mid-laner LNG Esports Scout was at risk of missing Worlds 2024 due to a legal case against his former club, EDward Gaming. However, the 2021 Worlds champion made it to Worlds 2024, and LNG became one of the best teams in the Swiss Stage, advancing to the playoffs with a 3-0 record, defeating Liquid, BLG, and DPlus KIA along the way.
As for Weibo Gaming, last year's Worlds runners-up also made it to the playoffs with a 3-2 record. On their way to the quarterfinals, Weibo defeated Liquid, Fnatic, and DPlus KIA, but lost to Gen.G and G2 Esports.
Last year, both teams reached the top 8. For Weibo Gaming, reaching the grand final is required to match their previous result, while LNG Esports just need to defeat Weibo Gaming to improve on last year’s performance. While I try to stay neutral, it seems that the LNG Esports of Worlds 2024 are capable of moving on to the next round.
Bilibili Gaming vs. Hanwha Life Esports (October 18, 14:00 CET)
The second match of the LoL World Championship 2024 Quarterfinals will be between Bilibili Gaming (LPL) and Hanwha Life Esports (LCK). The quarterfinal between BLG and HLE will take place on October 19 at 14:00 CET.
Looking at the BLG vs. Hanwha Life Esports matchup objectively and setting aside personal preferences, it shapes up to be the highlight of the round. It's the highlight because we have a battle between the champions of LPL and LCK.
Hanwha Life Esports pleasantly surprised their fans by becoming the LCK Summer 2024 champions, winning the grand final against Gen.G. This victory automatically made HLE one of the main contenders for this year’s Summoner’s Cup. At Worlds, they partially confirmed their status, but their play hasn’t been perfect: they reached the playoffs with a 3-1 record, losing only to Gen.G. However, none of their wins came against representatives from the Eastern League of Legends (LPL, LCK), and in the series for a playoff spot, they nearly lost 0-2 to FlyQuest before rallying to win 2-1 and advance to the Worlds 2024 playoffs.
Bilibili Gaming made it to the World Championship 2024 playoffs with a 3-2 record, defeating MAD Lions, PSG Talon, and G2 Esports. Meanwhile, they lost to LNG Esports and T1. It’s clear that the LPL champions have some issues, as they lost to China’s top-4 team, LNG, and T1, who were defeated by China’s top-3 team, TES. However, all their losses came in best-of-1 matches, and the situation will be completely different in a best-of-5.
T1 vs. Top Esports (October 19, 14:00 CET)
The third match of the LoL World Championship 2024 Schedule in the quarterfinals will be T1 (LCK) vs. Top Esports (LPL). The T1 vs. TES match will take place on October 19 at 14:00 CET.
While the Bilibili Gaming vs. HLE matchup is nominally the highlight of the round, as the LPL champions face the LCK champions, TES vs. T1 is the hottest match of the season in terms of the storyline between the teams.
For T1 and Top Esports, this will be the third meeting since the start of the 2024 competitive season. T1 won against TES in the grand final of the Esports World Cup 2024, and then at this LoL World Championship 2024, TES defeated T1 in a best-of-1.
The world’s most decorated team, T1, advanced to the playoffs of the LoL World Championship 2024 with a 3-1 record. They lost only to TES, while defeating paiN Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, and G2 Esports. Top Esports, like T1, also advanced with a 3-1 record, losing to Gen.G and defeating T1, Fnatic, and DPlus KIA.
This will surely be an incredible match, regardless of the outcome. The reigning world champions, T1, are chasing their fifth title, and every team in the world wants to stop Faker and his team on their way to another championship. We’ll see if TES can do it.
Gen.G vs. FlyQuest (October 20, 14:00 CET)
The final match of the first round of the Worlds 2024 Schedule will be between Gen.G (LCK) and FlyQuest (LCS). The match will take place on October 20 at 14:00 CET.
Even in tournaments like the League of Legends World Championship 2024 and even at such late stages as the Knockout Stage, there can be "walkover" matches. The Gen.G vs. FlyQuest match risks being one of them.
It’s not because of poor play by one of the teams, in this case FlyQuest, but rather the significant gap in overall skill between the two clubs. Gen.G is on a different level, and clubs like FlyQuest don’t pose much of a threat to them.
Nevertheless, the Americans deserve credit. They are the only Western team to make it to the Worlds 2024 playoffs. They advanced with a 3-2 record, defeating GAM Esports, PSG Talon, and Team Liquid, while losing to DPlus KIA and HLE, representatives of the LCK. In fairness, they lacked the international tournament experience needed to close out a 2-0 series against the LCK champions, HLE. Gen.G, who advanced to the playoffs with a 3-0 record, defeating Weibo Gaming, Top Esports, and HLE, have much more experience.
Looking at the teams Gen.G defeated on their way to the playoffs (the toughest bracket of all the teams that played in the Swiss Stage), it’s clear they are in form and ready to at least reach the semifinals.
FlyQuest can be wished the best of luck and praised for a great season and a significant achievement for the club.
