All About Ranks In Deadlock: How Does the Deadlock Ranking System Work?

Deadlock officially launched its ranked mode on October 15, 2024, and players have been eagerly awaiting this new feature. With Valve already managing competitive systems in Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2, expectations are high. However, the developers decided not to simply replicate existing models, instead introducing a unique ranking system that promises a fresh and balanced competitive experience. This change aims to address long-standing complaints about the ranking system in other Valve games.

What is Ranked Mode in Deadlock?

offers a more challenging experience, providing a competitive environment in Deadlock. In this mode, you’ll be matched with players of similar skill levels, and match results will determine your skill level compared to others.

Players will have the opportunity to engage in this competition each week, participating in matches during the available hours in their region and showcasing their individual skills.

How Does Ranked Mode in Deadlock Work?

All players start with an initially unknown skill level. Each week, you need to complete seven matches to qualify for the ranked mode that week. At the end of the week, you will receive a title displayed as a badge on your profile.

If you don’t play seven matches by the end of the week, your visible title will revert to unknown and remain hidden until you qualify again the following week. Your skill data will not disappear and will be used for future games, but the badge will not be displayed.

There are eleven title levels in Deadlock, and at each level, players also receive a sub-level from I to VI, which more accurately defines their position within that level.

All Ranks in Deadlock

In total, the developers added 11 ranks to Deadlock. Here's the list from the lowest to the highest:

  • INITIATE
  • SEEKER
  • ALCHEMIST
  • ARCANIST
  • RITUALIST
  • EMISSARY
  • ARCHON

What You Need to Access Deadlock's Ranked Mode

To access ranked matches, players must meet the following requirements:

  • 50 Games in Casual Mode: You must play at least 50 standard matches to unlock ranked mode. This ensures players are prepared for competitive play.
  • No Behavior Sanctions: If you have penalties like chat bans, you won’t be able to join ranked games. This is necessary to maintain a positive atmosphere in ranked matches.
  • 7Matches Per Week: To keep your progress current, you must play at least seven matches weekly. This is essential for updating your Deadlock rank medal.

When Does Ranked Mode in Deadlock Begin?

Ranked mode launches on October 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST). However, the Deadlock ranking will follow a limited time window system. Ranked games will only be available during the following time slots:

  • 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

These time slots encourage players to take matches more seriously, fostering high-quality, focused gameplay.

Mechanics of the Deadlock Ranking System

The Deadlock ranking system uses a unique medal system that updates weekly. Every Monday, your current rank is recalculated based on your performance over the past week. Consistently performing well will help you advance through the Deadlock ranks, while poor performance may result in rank decreases.

This system differs from games like Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and VALORANT, where ranks are updated after each match. In Deadlock, rank progression is based on weekly consistency, adding a new layer of challenge.

Limitations and Future Updates for Deadlock's Ranked Mode

At the launch of ranked mode, only solo queue will be available. This will truly test players' individual skills. However, Valve has already announced plans to introduce team play (stacking) later, which will add another dimension to competitive matches.

Keep in mind that the ranking system is still being refined, and changes may be implemented based on player feedback during the testing phase.

  • Practice with Multiple Heroes: Mastering different heroes will give you flexibility in competitive matches.
  • Learn the Maps: Knowing key locations on maps is crucial for gaining a tactical advantage.
  • Complete Your 50 Games Early: Make sure you’ve played 50 casual matches before October 15 to jump into ranked mode as soon as it launches.
  • Consistency Matters: Remember, your rank depends on consistent performance. One good match won’t determine your rank; it’s all about steady improvement.
