Today CBCS Elite League Season 2 kicks off — the main hopes and concerns at the second RMR event in South America.

The RMR cycle is going on. Today gives a start for the second qualifying tournament for PGL Major 2021 for teams in South America.

The event is loud and important as there is a chance at stake to represent the region at the first Major tournament in two years. Everybody knows it, so the contestants are going to put in their best work there. Right?

Getting ready for a new lap of the RMR race and sharing our expectations in the preview of CBCS Elite League Season 2.

Only not like the previous time

In 2021 the series of RMR tournaments was flooded by craziness and inconsistency. Hearing the three consonants makes you think of the European Flashpoint 3 with unregulated rematches, of EPIC CIS League Spring 2021 with obscure cheaters. But the peak of failed professionalism was CBCS Elite League Season 1.

The first season of, as it seems, the only important tournament in South America was sinking into terror. The South American teams did not take the championship seriously which led to devastating and unprecedented consequences: there were five teams disqualified at CBCS Elite League Season 1.

As a result, we saw an absolutely broken first stage of the Swedish system with missing rounds and total chaos. And there arises a question – who’s guilty?

Valve, who created a flawed system? The organizers, CBS, who let the disorder happen? The contestants, who got the role of main stars of all this mess?

It is always fun to look for the guilty and point at them but it is important for the organizers of CBCS to learn a lesson from that. And here we are coming close to the next issue.

And will it change?

At the second season of CBCS Elite League Season 2 we are to see 16 teams that will fight for their share of $19,000. But 7,250 RMR points will be a more valuable prize.

And these points will also be taken by the mentioned 16 teams including Keyd Stars and DETONA Gaming. These are the teams that got disqualified in the first season.

Maybe in the second season we are going to see a story about revival and we will see that antiheroes will become true heroes. We want to believe it, we will hope for it.

A bit about power balance

The RMR system is a great one on paper but different in realization. The unfortunate CBCS Elite League Season 1 is a great proof of it.

Division into regions is a good intention designed to develop esports in different parts of the planet. But the truth is untouched: there is always someone stronger and someone weaker.

CSGO also hold the truth. South America is difficult to be called one of the strongest regions.

The competition has lots of room for improvements, and since the engines of the region like FalleN have left the stage, the situation is getting worse and worse. And if we go back to the first season of CBCS Elite League…

Keeping it in mind, we get the only doubtless favourite MIBR. No surprise, the other competitors like FURIA, paiN and O Plano migrated to a nearby region – North America.

Even though MIBR look stronger and more high-status, there is no guarantees that they will win the championship easily. At the first season of CBCS Elite League they faced some problems both in the Swiss system and at the playoff winning only one series out of three. And this is what happened despite absence of proper resistance.

Maybe Sharks or Paqueta Gaming will surprise us this time and move MIBR away from the leading position in the region. We’ll see.

Bottom line

The announce of CBCS Elite League Season 2 ended up pretty pessimisticly. The first season is always there in the background of our expectations.

But, if truth be told, we saw some issues during RMR-tournaments not only in South America. CBCS had some time to work on mistakes of the first season so we hope they did not waste it.

I hope CBCS Elite League Season 2 will turn out to be a great tournament of the StarLadder CIS RMR level that became a relief after the failed EPIC CIS League Spring 2021. We are waiting for the start of CBCS Elite League Season 2 and continue to observe the RMR race.
