The International 2020 prize pool reaches $ 35,000,000
It is noteworthy that the prize pool of The International 2020 was able to reach $ 35,000,000 after 100 days. The initial fund was $ 1,600,000, and the rest, as usual, was raised by crowdfunding through the Battle Pass.
On August 26th, what many players expected happened. The money raised for the prize at The International 2020 broke last year's record and to this day, this fund is the largest of all esports events. The fundraiser will end on September 19. From the very beginning, Valve had planned to finish collecting money on September 5, but the game had a bug for two weeks that made it difficult for users to find a match. By extending the Battle Pass by 2 weeks, Valve said they wanted to apologize for the inconvenience caused to the players in this way.
At the moment, we still do not know when The International 2020 will be held. At first it was supposed to take place from August 18 to 23, but after the outbreak of the pandemic, all plans changed and Valve to postpone TI10 indefinitely. This is not the only major championship that has undergone changes due to the coronavirus. Valve canceled the first Major CS: GO tournament, combining both prize majors into one. The League of Legends World Championship has undergone significant changes as well. Riot Games abandoned the idea of holding the tournament in three locations, limiting itself only to China, and the format of the group stage was changed.
